NRA Annual Meetings 2018 Brownells Launches The New BRN-22 10/22 Receiver Patrick Roberts May 7, 2018 Join the Conversation At RECOIL, we review every product fairly and without bias. Learn More Brownells has been flat out killing it lately when it comes to new products. First, the Retro line of AR-15's introduced at SHOT Show 2018, now at NRA 2018, Brownells is rolling out the BRN-22. The new line of rimfire receivers is a 10/22 pattern receiver that is machined, not cast and offers a refined base to build your dream .22 rifle off of. The brand new BRN-22 10/22 receivers add yet another option for those shooters that prefer to build their rifles, not just buy them completed. After all, that is way more fun than just swiping a card and living with the same configuration that ten of your buddies already have. The BRN-22 is going to be offered in two variants, a standard variant that allows the use of iron sights or a scope with the addition of a screw on optics rail or a railed model that features a machined in non-removable optics rail. BRN-22 Specs: CNC Machined from 6061 Aluminium Hardcoat anodized All barrels are threaded 1/2 x 28 Cleaning rod access hole in the back of the receiver Heavy or sporter profile barrels in 16-inch length Heavy barrel in 10-inch length Both variants can be purchased stripped or even as a barreled receiver with several barrel length options to choose from. The standard variant seen here has a less tactical profile and should mate up with standard stocks thanks to the more contoured rear slope on the receiver. The standard BRN-22 receiver would make a great starting point for a rifle like the ones that our own Dave Merrill built for his Family Rifle article. Dave purchased a factory Ruger receiver and complete bolt for the sum of $150, the BRN-22, by comparison, would have only run him about $125. The railed variant of the BRN-22 is only going to set you back $89.99 and has a far more tactical appearance if that's your thing. The closest thing that I can recall to the railed BRN-22R is the old Nodak Spud NDS-22 that was priced at $160 when it was introduced. Keep in mind that $160 was a good deal back at that time, so when I heard the BRN-22R was going to be under a c-note, I may have made some noises that sounded a lot like a teenage girl seeing her favorite pop star in real life. The receiver profile of the railed BRN-22R is slightly more chunky than the standard version but when you take into account that you are going to be mounting an optic on top, not only does the extra material not really matter much, it offers a slightly more ridged part that will be capable of greater accuracy. The new receivers should be shipping within a few weeks of NRAAM with the railed version being the first to be available. Variants that are planned are as follows: BRN-22 Stripped Standard Receiver – $79.99 BRN-22R Stripped Railed Receiver – $89.99 BRN-22 Barreled Standard Receiver with 16″ sporter barrel – $149.99 BRN-22R Barreled Railed Receiver with 16″ sporter barrel – $159.99 BRN-22 Barreled Standard Receiver with 16″ heavy barrel – $149.99 BRN-22R Barreled Railed Receiver with 16″ heavy barrel – $159.99 BRN-22 Barreled Standard Receiver with 10″ heavy barrel – $149.99 BRN-22R Barreled Railed Receiver with 10″ heavy barrel – $159.99 Brownells hasn't added the new BRN-22 to the website quite yet, but make sure to check the Brownells website in the next couple of weeks for a listing.
