Learn More A new type of medical device has been developed in Israel and is now approved for use in America and Europe. The TopClosure 3s Trauma Management System is a new device to ‘zip up’ large lacerations, gashes, and gaping wounds. It has been used most recently in CASEVAC operations in Gaza during Operation Protective Edge. The TopClosure closes wounds by using straps that can be applied to the skin via the adhesive or attached invasively using stitches. According to the manufacturer, this device allows the tension to be spread over the skin about 100,000 times higher than if sutures were being used. Developed by a plastic surgeon in Israel, the device has been used for a few years now, with data being collected to show “scope of applications”. According to the chief of plastic surgery at Hillel Yaffe Medical center in Hadera, “It’s changing the way we've been handling the closure of wounds to avoid further damage and contamination to the injured tissues”.
