If you aren't familiar with the Barnaul name in ammunition, pay closer attention to the boxes of steel case ammo in your local gun store. The Bear ammo brands you might know like Brown Bear, Silver Bear, and Golden Bear are all manufactured by Barnual as well as the Monarch brand offered by Academy Sports. It isn't like the stuff is new to the U.S. Market. They have over 70 years in the ammunition business and even produced nearly 2 Billion rounds of ammo during World War II. With MKS Supply importing Barnaul under the factory's name, they might not have the same name recognition as their sub-brands, but it will be of the same quality you have grown used to. MKS Supply brought out a boatload of the .45 ACP loads to run in the slightly updated Hi-Point .45 ACP Carbine during the Big 3 East Media Shoot and we have to admit, it wasn't half bad plinking ammo. We don't know what the pricing will look like at retailers yet, but knowing the budget minded folks at MKS Supply we suspect that it will be highly competitive. They also wanted to point out a small change made to the 9mm and .45 ACP Hi-Point Carbines. They will now be threaded from the factory. Somehow just about everyone missed this at SHOT Show 2019 and focused on the new 9mm pistol prototype MKS unveiled. The rest of the carbine is going to look exactly as we have known it to for the last several years, but there were hints dropped that in the next year or two we might even see some fresh life breathed into that design as they did with the 9mm pistol. The 9mm version will ship with a thread protector covering industry standard 1/2″ x 28 threads. Sadly the Hi-Point website has not been updated to reflect the addition of the threaded muzzle, but rest assured they are a thing. The .45 ACP variant of the carbine will get the same treatment with industry standard .578″ x 28 threads under the same style knurled thread protector.
