Written by Jacki Billings Springfield Armory is prepping for SHOT Show delivering another pistol. The Illinois based gun maker announced a new version of its Springfield XD-S series, proclaiming the XD-S Mod.2 the “next evolution of the acclaimed XD-S pistol.” Taking the XD-S and tweaking it to fall under the Mod.2 banner, Springfield revamps what’s old to turn out something, well, middle-aged. “For those looking for a constant-carry pistol, the new XD-S Mod.2 is the perfect choice. It embodies everything Springfield Armory stands for: constant improvement, high-quality, and a relentless commitment to one goal – forging firearms that enable responsible citizens to preserve their right to keep and bear arms in the defense of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” Springfield Armory said in a statement. The .45 ACP model features a 3.3-inch barrel on an overall 6.5-inch length single stack frame. Springfield says it's outfitted the XD-S Mod.2 with dual springs in addition to a full-length guide rod to mitigate .45 recoil on the sub-compact. The semi-auto sports a Springfield Armory front sight paired with an Ameriglo Pro-Glo System and Springfield tactical-rack rear sight. The Ameriglo Pro-Glo introduces a green tritium inside a yellow luminescent circle for all those low-light needs while the tactical-rack rear delivers a serrated steel style. Since revamping triggers is all the rage these days, Springfield also dives in on the action enhancing its trigger to align with the company’s trademarked Point and Shoot ergonomics. The gun maker says shooters can expect to see a short-reset and consistent trigger on the defensive carry gun. Looking to start beating the XD-S Mod.2 with a hammer for all your Insta followers? Tough luck. It seems the gun maker has jumped ahead of the curve and rendered the gun incapable of firing if dropped. (Though I doubt that will stop the YouTube warriors from trying.) The Springfield XD-S Mod.2 keeps with Springfield’s theme of splashing the “XD” name across the .975-inch width grip, just in case you forget what you’re shooting. Springfield Armory says the textured area coupled with a thinner beavertail makes this iteration of the XD “even more comfortable to shoot than its predecessor.” Springfield fans have their choice of XD-S Mod.2 including a night sight version ($568), tritium sight model ($618), and Viridian laser package ($598).
