Cigars and guns go together like peanut butter and jelly. Or bacon and eggs. Or politicians and corruption. Line Of Duty was started by Tom Werther, who spent ten years as a volunteer firefighter and twelve as a New York City policeman. He rose to detective before medically retiring for an injury he sustained while effecting an arrest. In 2015, he started Line Of Duty based a couple of simple concepts: one is an easily accessible bread-and-butter web store that makes online resupply a breeze. The other is an absolutely staunch commitment to supporting charities that benefit the military, LEO, and first responder community. “In all my years of civil service, the one constant has always been, that most of us do not come from a wealthy background, we don’t always have enough money to cover our own expenses, yet we ALWAYS donate to the causes, when they are presented,” said Werther. “I, like many other police officers have a fair share of coffee mugs, tee shirts, hats, sweatshirts, etc… items sold at every fundraising event, items that we don’t need, but we know by buying them, we are helping those that need it most.” When you make a purchase from the Line Of Duty web store, you are able to choose from a list of ten separate charities broken down by community (military, LEO, fire/first responder). You select your organization of choice and, when your purchase is complete, they donate a portion to the charity you selected. They also have a program with brick-and-mortar cigar retailers where those shops (who carry Line Of Duty cigars) may choose a local charity, such as a VFW or American Legion outpost, that’s near and dear to them. If the retailer chooses to make a donation to their local charity, Line Of Duty will match 50% of that contribution and send a letter explaining where the donation is coming from, and encouraging locals to shop at the cigar store that made the donation. In addition to their cigars, which all originate from Esteli, Nicaragua (a region the author favors heavily for cigars), Line Of Duty sells a number of related accessories like cutters, lighters, and ashtrays. The latter can be customized with the photo image of your choice, which is then laid into the tray and epoxy coated for longevity. The example you see here bears the crest of the author’s Alma Mater. But you can order whatever image/logo you prefer, or choose from a couple of ready-made options. We commend Line Of Duty for their efforts. It’s one thing for a business to make a couple of annual donations for tax purposes. It’s another to see one that literally integrates donation into its purchase product, for every purchase.
