Learn More To most, SOFIC (Special Operations Forces Industry Conference) is about showcasing the newest and most cutting edge firearms and gear that the industry has to offer, with attendees spending days ooooo-ing and ahhh-ing over all of the finest tech. But look a little closer, and you will find one particular part of the show floor that seeks to help this community in a way that goes beyond guns and gadgets. Many service organizations give their hearts and their time to enrich the lives of special operations personnel and this week I had the privilege of speaking with one of those organizations- Special Ops Xcursions. Those who love the outdoors know what a powerful healer it can be, and Special Ops Xcursions seeks to provide much-needed relaxation to service members both pre- or post-deployment. Special Ops Xcursions was founded in 2012 by a small group of friends at their local hunting club in Tennessee with a mission to share their love of the outdoors and to provide outdoor adventures to active duty Special Operations Forces (SOF) service members and their families. Through some mutual friends, they were able to bring in their first group of soldiers in September of 2013 for the annual club dove hunt and the rest is history. Since then, working with volunteers and local guides who donate their time and services at ZERO cost, Special Ops Xcursions has taken countless service members on adventures that far surpass that first dove hunt. Now their events take place all over the United States and sometimes even internationally, and include hunting (ducks, deer, turkey, dove, etc), fishing (bow fishing, crappie, bass, deep sea, on the fly), shooting trap and skeet, archery range days, family retreats and intro to the outdoors programs, African safaris, music writing getaways with Nashville recording artists, camping, and even starting instructional classes for handguns up to long range tactical shooting. If you would like to get involved, there are many ways that you can help Special Ops Xcursions with their mission including monetary donations, hosting or sponsoring an event, corporate giving, providing needed gear, or just sharing their mission with others.
