People In Cani Confidimus: A Forever Home David Reeder May 13, 2016 Join the Conversation At RECOIL, we review every product fairly and without bias. Making a purchase through one of our links may earn us a small commission, and helps support independent gun reviews. Learn More The Forever Home Rescue Foundation is based in Chantilly, VA. It's a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that serves the Washington, DC metro area and is run by a group of experienced rescuers whose mission is to adopt out dogs who will fit the lifestyle and personalities of prospective owners or families. In addition to an online gallery of animals currently available to adopt (you can find that here) they also host numerous fundraising and adoption events (like the upcoming Fifth Annual Casino Night & Silent Auction). A Forever Home unfortunately has a large number of dogs available for adoption, including many puppies. If you're in driving distance and are looking to bring a rescued dog into your home, here's their basic guideline: “If you are interested in adopting an animal from A Forever-Home Rescue Foundation, the first step is to review our Adoption Information Sheet and then complete an Adoption Questionnaire. The forms are available here in Portable Document Format (PDF) for you to download and fill out. When you’ve completed the questionnaire, you can fax it to us at (866) 863-6890 for our review, or just bring it with you to one of our adoption events.” Adoption forms are right here. Note that they do require adoptive individuals to sign a contract ensuring compliance with local law as well as the welfare of the animal. AFH is actively seeking volunteers for foster homes, transportation and vet visits and to help at fundraising events. You can do them a solid by donating supplies (newspaper, crates, cages, leashes, collars, food, etc.), by helping them out with their Amazon Wish List or by shopping online at iGive. For more opportunities to help them out, check out their How to Help page. Interestingly, they produce frequent podcasts, discussing animal care, dog breeds, and specific canines up for adoption. You can find those here. Feel free to leave suggestions for reputable rescue organizations in your area in the comments below. Find other articles in this series right here.
