Learn More In this installment of RECOILtv's Gun Room, we join Editor in Chief, Iain Harrison, as he profiles an engineering masterpiece from Strasser, the RS 14 Evolution. Iain was lucky enough to visit Strasser HQ in Austria for a previous episode of Gun Room, and now he's able to put the RS 14 to use in the field. As a rifle designed by the brilliant engineers at Strasser (who just happen to also make rockets and cool space stuff for the European Space Agency…no big deal), the RS 14 Evolution is as beautiful as it is modular. This straight-pull bolt action rifle is extremely fast during operation, and you begin to understand the level of engineering within when you start to break the rifle down. Without any tools apart from what comes included with the rifle, you are able to completely disassemble this platform down to its core parts. An interchangeable bolt head allows you to swap case head diameters for different cartridges, and the entire platform can be swapped between three different cartridge families. Additionally, once the bolt head has been removed, shooters are able to swap just the tip of the firing pin, rather than the entire firing pin, should they run into a pierced primer scenario. But the best part of uncovering the many little Easter eggs contained in the RS 14 has to be the cartridge family adaptability. Not only can shooters change calibers within the same family easily, but a simple barrel, bolt head, and magazine change allow shooters to vary the projectile from mini, to standard, all the way up through magnum cartridges. This rifle truly is more than just some beautiful eye candy, and you need to witness how fast this rig can run!
