Learn More Wisconsin's Vortex Optics has opened registration for the 2013 Vortex Extreme. Vortex Extreme is a rigorous long range precision shooting competition that utilizes real word hunting scenarios and intensive physical requirements to challenge fifty two-man teams. Held at a range facility in Utah this July, teams will be required to navigate a seven mile course on foot and successfully engage targets out to 1,200 yards. Final scores will be a compilation of the time taken to complete the course and shooter accuracy. “If you can hack it to pack it,” Vortex Optics says, “you can bring it. Participants must carry everything needed to effectively shoot and attend the course. Each person must carry their own rifle. Other kit can be shared.” Here is a look at last year's competition: Recommended gear includes what you might expect – rifle, ammunition, backpack or bergen, water, “eyes and ears” (hearing and eye protection), etc. Date of the competition is 26, 27, 28 July 13. Teams will begin arriving at approximately 1600 on the 27th, will be served dinner at 1800 and be given an orientation. Sign in will begin the following morning at 0500 and they anticipate the shooting will be concluded in time for a 1500 awards ceremony. RECOIL will be covering the event from the shooter's perspective – look for inside info, tips and gear recommendations once we've wiped the sweat out of our eyes.
